Your data is safe with Rowsta
A school keeps records about children, families and money in Rowsta. Here is, in plain words, how we look after them.
- Backed up every nightA copy of your records every night, kept somewhere separate and private. Restoring them has been tested.
- Everyone sees only what they shouldStaff see what their role allows, and each school’s workspace is kept apart from every other.

Backed up every night
- A copy every nightEvery night, Rowsta makes a full backup of its records, and of the photos and documents people upload.
- Kept somewhere separate and privateBackups are stored away from the live system, in private storage that only Rowsta can reach.
- Checked before they are keptEach backup is checked before it is stored. A copy that fails the check is never kept as a good one.
- Restoring has been testedWe have restored a real backup into a fresh database to prove it works, and the restore steps are written down.
Everyone sees only what they should
- Staff see what their role allowsEach member of staff has a role, and their role decides what they can see and do. A teacher sees only the classes and subjects they teach.
- Parents see only their own childrenA parent or guardian can reach a child’s records only through their own link to that child.
- Each workspace is kept apartEvery school on Rowsta has its own workspace and its own records. One can never see another’s records.
Safe connections and sign-in
- Encrypted connectionsEverything sent between your browser and Rowsta is encrypted (HTTPS), and browsers are told to always use the secure connection.
- Passwords are kept scrambledRowsta never keeps your password itself, only a scrambled form of it (an Argon2 hash) that nobody, including Rowsta, can turn back into the password.
- Guessing passwords is blockedToo many wrong sign-in attempts in a short time are refused, which stops people guessing passwords.
- No ads and no trackersRowsta shows no ads and does not sell your information. rowsta.com loads no advertising or tracking scripts.
